Project history: Lack the through tank deck of the larger British Sir Lancelot class. Flight deck for one helicopter aft. Carry up to 9 tanks depending on size (one Chieftain abreast or two T-54/55). 700t cargo capacity includes 300t of vehicle fuel. 42.7x9.4m vehicle deck can accommodate 12 T-55 or 6 Chieftain tanks. 10t crane can handle two Uniflote cargo lighters and 12 Z-boat LCPs. First two were ordered in 1972, four more in 1977. Material for the last two ships was ordered by Yarrow by the time of their cancellation in March 1979.

Modernizations: None.
