Project history: Former Volksmarine corvettes built by VEB Peenewerft, Wolgast. Following the reunification of Germany a few remained in service with the Bundesmarine for a short period. Formally transferred to Indonesia on 25 August 1993. All refitted prior to transfer, with increased range and air-conditioning fitted in accommodation spaces, retaining original armament. Good sea boats with a good turn of speed, but their multi-cylinder Soviet engines have proved a constant source of trouble.

Modernizations: 2002-2007, Kapitan Patimura, Wiratno, Memet Sastrawiria, Hasan Basri, Imam Bonjol, Silas Papare: - 2 M-504A diesels; + 2 MTU 16V4000M90 diesels (7300hp, 12050hp at all, 25kts)

2002-2007, Cut Nyak Dien, Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin, Pati Unus, Teuku Umar: - 2 M-504A diesels; + 2 Caterpillar CAT3516B diesels (5200hp, 9950hp at all, 24kts)
