Project history: Modified Nilgiri with larger helicopter (Sea King) in the telescopic hangar and TTs and Bofors ASWRL on forecastle instead of the Limbo. Also they received new sonar and ECM.

Modernizations: late 1980s, both: + G738 torpedo decoy

early 1990s, both: - UA8/9, type 667 ECM suites; + Ajanta-P ECM suite

late 1990s, both: - 2 x 4 Sea Cat GWS22 SAM, 2x M45 radars; + 2 x 2 - 30/71 AK-230

Naval service: Vindhyagiri collided 30.1.2011 with a m/v Nord Lake  at Mumbai harbour, fired and sank. She was salvaged 15.2.2011 but never repaired and officially stricken 14.6.2012.
