Project history: Half-sisters to 7 Sukanya-class units in the Indian Navy. Intended for offshore patrol vessel duties for the protection of oil platforms and the Indian economic exclusion zone. Differ from the Indian Navy Sukanya class in having heavier gun armament, having twin funnels flanking the helicopter hangar (which can accommodate a Sea King), lacking the deckhouse forward of the bridge, and having the helicopter deck terminate well short of the stern. Have fin stabilizers, firefighting water monitor and towing capability. Additional accommodations are provided for passengers. The 76mm guns in the first two proved too expensive to maintain and operate and more powerful than is needed in the ships' essentially policing role, but plans to replace the 76mm gun in the third unit were not carried out.
