Project history: The first boat (laid down in Sweden in 1882 and completed in 1885) built to a Nordenfelt and Rev George Garrett (1852-1902) design. She was bought by Greece in 1886 for £9000. Built of wrought iron frames with iron plating, she was steam powered on the surface, and steam was raised to provide latent heat for heating water stored in two 4t special tanks. She was claimed to have an endurance of 14 miles at 4 knots submerged using hot water held in tanks. The Whitehead torpedo was fired from a bow tube placed in an external casing over the bow.

Naval service: Never operational, she was BU in 1901.
