Project history: Ordered on 1 January 1951 from Volkswerft Stralsund. Design apparently heavily dependant on wartime 'M40' minesweepers, though diesel propulsion employed instead of steam.

Modernizations: 1954, 6.31-6/34: + 1 x 1 - 37/63 70K, 4 x 1 - 25/80 84KM

early 1960s, all survived: - 1 x 1 - 37/63, 4 x 1 - 25/80; + 1 x 1 - 85/52 90K, 4 x 2 - 25/80 2M-3M, 2 DCR, radar

Naval service: In 1957 6.33 ran aground off Sassnitz, and was refloated and rebuilt, with one other of the class, as salvage ships R-11 and R-21.
