Project history: UC II type minelayers; double-hulled boats with improved range and sea-keeping compared with the UC I type. They varied in details (particularly the shape of the bow) and machinery was increased in power in later boats. War orders C (UC16-33) and H (UC34-79).

Naval service: UC16 was mined in the English Channel 23.10.1917. UC18 was sunk by British decoy vessel Lady Olive 19.2.1917 in the English Channel. UC19 was sunk by British destroyer Ariel in the English Channel 6.12.1916. UC21 was lost by unknown cause in September-October 1917 in the North Sea area. UC24 was torpedoed 24.5.1917 by French submarine Circé in the Adriatic Sea. UC25, UC34 and UC53 were scuttled at Pola by own crews 28.10.1918, 30.10.1918 and 28.10.1918 respectively. UC26 was sunk by British destroyers Milne, Mentor and Miranda 9.5.1917 in the mouth of Thames. UC29 was sunk in Atlantic 7.6.1917 by British decoy vessel Pargust. UC76 was lost after explosion of own mine in the laying tube 10.5.1917 off Helgoland, salvaged that day, commissioned again and interned 13.11.1918 at Carlscrona (Sweden). UC77 was lost by unknown cause in July 1918 in the English Channel. UC78 was lost in May 1918 in the English Channel by unknown cause. UC79 was probably mined in April 1918 in the English Channel.
