Project history: Medium coastal submarines of Mobilization type, improved variant of U41 class. Double-hulled.
Modernizations: 1916-1917, U52-55: - 2 x 1 - 88/27; + 1 x 1 - 105/43 TK L/45 C/16
1917-1918: U53-55: + 1 x 1 - 88/27 TK L/30 C/08
Naval service: U51 was torpedoed 14.7.1916 in the North Sea by British submarine H5. U52 sank after torpedo explosion 29.10.1917 at KW Kiel, salvaged two days later and commissioned again in May, 1918. U56 was lost by unknown cause after 3.11.1916 in the Arctic.
