Project history: First German submarine, more experimental than battle boat. Partly double-hulled. Design was based on built by Germaniawerft Russian boats of Karp class.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: Used for trials and training, condemned in 1919, but bought by the builder, Germaniawerft, and donated to the Deutsches Museum, München where it is still exhibited.
