Project history: Most effective of German midget submarines. They were equipped with automobile diesel for surface propulsion and thanks to what possessed a significant endurance. A diving depth was up to 50m, minimal diving time was 5sec; seaworthiness was up to 4 by Beaufort. Boats of this type were arranged from three completely ready sections. 1351 units were ordered, but 285 were really completed and only 137 were commissioned by navy (on other data from 23 to 67). Since January, 1945 they actively participated in operations.
