Project history: Design was developed in early 1944 on the basis of captured Britsh midget submarine. Intended for actions against stationary targets (ships on anchorages and in harbours) and were originally armed with dropped explosive charge supposed to be dumped under enemy ship. Very soon armament was replaced by a torpedo, but three boats carried magnetic mines instead of torpedoes. In the absence of a surface machinery and a gyro-compass they differed by small action radius and thereof did not participate in operations.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: No significant events.
