Project history: Further development of type 1940 adapted under a section building method. On the stocks ships were assembled from seven large sections constructed at plants of several countries. Machinery construction repeated type 1940, but boilers received pure coal burning. Ships could be used as the torpedo training ships and had 2 TT, which unlike type 1940 were installed amidships. 160 ships were ordered, building of sections was begun for 49 (M601-633, 801-816), from them 17 were commissioned, 13 more were on various readiness stages (M807 and 808 were completed late 1945), for remaining part of sections was never completed.

Modernizations:

M611 was reverted to West Germany from USA in 1956 and commissioned by navy, as M206 Seeschlange 8.1956 with data as given in the table.
