Project history: Whalers, laid down on order of Norwegian companies but purchased by Kriegsmarine during building and commissioned as patrols.

Modernizations: 1942, all survived and completed were armed with 1 x 1 - 88/42 SK C/30, (1 - 2) x 1 - 37/80 SK C/30, 6 x 1 - 20/65 C/38, 2 DCR.

1945, Seelöwe was re-armed with 1 x 1 - 37/80 SK C/30, 2 x 1 - 20/65 C/38, 6 DCR, sweeps

Naval service: V6109 was badly damaged by torpedo of Soviet aircraft 23.4.1944 E off Vardö, taken under tow by V6110 but ultimately sunk by Soviet air bombs the same day. V5909 was sunk by Soviet submarine M-172 1.2.1943 N off Makkaur. UJ1211 ran aground 22.12.1944 at Ulvenfeuer. V5908 was badly damaged by Allied aircraft 26.1.1944 at Aalesund and stricken.
