Project history: Originally designed in 1958-59 as 'Large B Type' torpedo-recovery vessels, their official designation until 1974 was fleet service craft, but later they referred to as the Type 420. It soon turned out that they were unable to fulfil their planned role in torpedo-recovery and they were used for various purposes, mainly as training units of the weapons school.

Najade differed from her sisters in having an enlarged bridge.

Modernizations: 1970s, all: - 2 - 533 TT; + 4 x 1 - 533 TT

1980s, all: + DR-2000S ECM suite, 4 Hot Dog decoy launchers, T Mk 6 Fanfare torpedo decoy
