Project history: These Type 120 frigates were ordered in March 1957 having been designed in 1955-57 as 'Geleitboot 55' (Escort 55). They were the first German warships to receive CODAG propulsion. During numerous refits they received increased hull protection and stability, and updated electronics.
Modernizations: 1960s, all: - 2 x 1 - 533 TT; + 4 x 1 - 533 TT (short)
1980s, all: + 2 decoy RL
Naval service: No significant events.
