Project history: These Germania boats had the same hull but different turbine systems and therefore different funnel positions. Unusually for German practice part of them had 3 shafts. G 169-G 173 belonged to the last group of the 1908 fiscal year, and the remaining two to the 1909 programme.
Modernizations: 1916 - 1917, G170, 172 - 175: - 2 x 1 - 88/27; + 2 x 1 - 88/42 TK L/45 C/14
Naval service: G171 collided 14.9.1912 with battleship Zähringen in the North Sea and sunk. T172 was mined in the North Sea 7.7.1918.
