Project history: Slightly widened version of the 1915 A II type. A 50 was transferred in sections to Antwerp/Hoboken and finished there; A 51 was transferred by railway in sections to Pola and finished there, later serving as tender to the German submarine flotilla in the Mediterranean.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service:  A50 was mined 17.11.17 in the North Sea and A51 was scuttled 29.10.18 at Fiume; the others became British war reparations and were subsequently scrapped in the 1920s.
