Project history: After cessation of work over the design of oceangoing type 1937 destroyer  German naval chiefs returned to successful type 1936, having solved to strengthen fire power. Transition to the 150mm artillery became a result, and two guns should take places in twin turret mount. General arrangement and machinery structure repeated a prototype. The hull form has been improved (Atlantic bow and bulb), and instead of one two rudders were fitted in screws streams that has significantly improved manoeuvrability. Availability of turrets strongly lagged behind building of the ships, therefore all destroyers were commissioned with four 150mm guns. Replacement of fwd gun by twin turret has led to seaworthiness deterioration. Z28 was completed under the individual design as the leader and differed by superfiring arrangement of fwd guns (thanks to what she has appeared the most seaworthy among all series), and also the additional accommodation block on an aft superstructure. Unlike predecessors, destroyers of type 1936À were unnamed, but informally concerned to 'Narvik' class.
