Project history: Slightly increased version of Karl Meyer. Richthofen was laid as Werner Minders. Designed armament (3 20mm MG) at the moment of commission was strengthened. Sisterships "M" and "N" (both Schichau) were ordered but never laid down and cancelled in March, 1943. Slightly modified "O" (K71, 1780t, 96.0x12.0x3.3m, 8800hp, 22kts) was never ordered.

Modernizations: 1943, Hans Albrecht Wedel: - 1 x 1 - 37/80; + 1 x 1 - 105/42 SK C/32, 2 x 4 - 20/65 C/38.

Naval service: Hans Albrecht Wedel was sunk 8.4.1945 by Soviet bombers in Danzig Bight. Richthofen on reparations was transferred to the USSR as Khibiny.
