Project history: Derived from the US Navy's LST, of which several were operated by the Marine Nationale in the postwar period, the Trieux class were designated BDC (Bátiments de Débarquement de Chars). They carried four LCVPs beneath davits on each side of the superstructure. There was fixed accommodation for a maximum of 329 troops, and a further 320 could be carried over short distances. In the logistics role they could carry 1000t of freight, 400t of fresh water and 270t of diesel fuel. MacGregor-type loading hatches were fitted.
Modernizations: late 1960s, Trieux, Blavet: + 2 helicopters (2 Alouette II), hangar fwd of the bridge, helicopter deck
Naval service: No significant events.
