Project history: 1935 (3 ships), 1937 (2) and 1938 (4) programs. Building of three ships of the 1938 program and 12 of 1939 program was cancelled. As a whole design was close to Élan, but ships had extended forecastle.

 

Modernizations: 1948, Annamite, Chevreul, Gazelle: were rearmed with 1 x 2 - 90/50 M1926, 1 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3, 6 x 1 - 20/70 Mk 4, 4 DCT, 2 DCR (120), radars, sonar

 

Naval service: Chamois was scuttled 27.11.1942 at Toulon, salvaged by Germans and commissioned by them as fast escort SG21; 23.11.1943 she was sunk by Allied aircraft, raised again and ultimately sunk by American destroyers 15.8.1944. Chevreuil 3.7.1940 was captured by British at Portsmouth and transferred to FNFL. La Surprise was sunk at Oran 8.11.1942 at Allied landing. Matelot Leblanc was completed by Germans and commissioned by them as fast escort SG14; 24.8.1944 she was sunk at Capri by Allied aircraft. Rageot de la Touche was completed by Germans and commissioned as fast escort SG15 (UJ2229), she was sunk by British submarine Universal. Amiral Sénès was captured by Germans, renamed SG16 and scuttled at Marseilles. Enseigne Ballande was captured by Germans, renamed SG17, completed but never commissioned and was scuttled.
