Project history: Two 450t destroyers of slightly different hull dimensions modelled on the preceeding Spahi class were built as an experiment. They were fitted with three-shaft machinery - a reciprocating cruise engine in the central shaft and turbines for high speed on the outer shafts. Both proved quite reliable in service but exceeded their designed displacement. However their combined machinery was considered less flexible than the single type of engines in other ships. In this class all four funnels were installed before an engine room.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: No significant events.
