Project history: A large class with many variations in details. The Normand-built 207-205 were the prototypes, and during the construction of the class Normand-inspired modifications continually uprated the engines, reaching an actual figure of 2000ihp in 278-279. They were the first class designed with two boilers (and consequently had two funnels) and were considered economical steamers. 243 was completed with two experimental Rateau turbines, the first in the French Navy.
Modernizations: 1915 - 1917, N° 252, 266, 278: were converted to minesweepers; - 1 x 1 - 380 TT; + mechanical minesweeping gear
1915 - 1916, some boats: - 1 - 380 TT, 1 x 1 - 380 TT; + 1 - 450 TT (bow), 1 x 1 - 450 TT
Naval service: 9S was shipped to Saigon for assembly and 242, 244-249,254,255,277, 284-286, 291 and 292 went to Saigon; 267,262, 270,272,287- and 290 went to the Indian Ocean flotilla based at Diego Suarez.
