Project history: These differed from the Durandal mainly in having four boilers and four funnels. The weights were also redistributed to give a higher centre of gravity, but this led to instability. Pique especially had too much topweight, and the mainmasts and aft control positions were removed from each ship. They had problems reaching their designed speed on trials.

Naval service: Framée was rammed and sunk by battleship Brennus 11.8.1900 off Cape St. Vincent. Yatagan sank 3.11.1916 after collision with British s/s Teviot off Dieppe.
