Project history: Small, one-funnelled cruisers with plough bows, forecastle and poop and originally three masts, later reduced to two. They were usually classed as torpedo cruisers, that is, as large torpedo gunboats. The 100mm guns were distributed two forward on the upper deck in embrasure ports, two in upper deck sponsons and one on the poop.
Ship protection: The curved armour deck was 40mm and there was a cofferdam above and splinter deck below over the machinery spaces.
Modernizations: 1890s, all: - 4 - 350 TT
1890s, Vautour: was fitted for oil burning.
Naval service: No significant events.
