Project history: Ordered on 31.8.1892. Although this pair were the product of the same designer as Mousquetaire, they were inspired by Normand's Dragon of the modified Avant-Garde type. On trials they made 25.4kts, and generally were regarded as good steamers and seaboats but were plagued by their obsolescent and temperamental boilers. They kept their speed throughout their careers. They had 2 funnels.

Modernizations: 1900, Averne: was reboilered.

Naval service: No significant events.
