Project history: Authorised in 1960, La Combattante was to have been the prototype of a new class of patrouilleurs garde-côtes. Construction was of laminated wood and plastics, giving a low magnetic signature. She conducted trials of the Exocet missile and served as the basis for a whole series of FPBs built for export.

Modernizations: 1975: - 1x14 flare launcher; + 1 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3, accommodation for 80 troops for a short passage.

1979: diesels were replaced by SEMT-Pielstick 8PA4-V200 VGDS diesels (3840hp, 28kts)

Naval service: No significant events.
