Project history: This ship was wooden-hulled and, specially designed by Dupuy de Lôme for ramming, was said to have had a tactical diameter of 210m. There was a long spur ram with the point 2.5m below water.  It was originally intended to fit a fixed turret forward with two or more ports but this was changed to a barbette. There was a single funnel, and she was reported to be a very bad sea boat.

Ship protection: Complete 150mm belt reached to 0.71m above water at which height there was a 50mm armour deck. Above this was a thin iron turtle-deck covering the crew space and supporting the upper deck. Gun was protected by 120mm barbette.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: No significant events.
