Project history: Saukko became unique submarine in the world projected for service on lake, intended for actions on Ladoga. Under Tartu peace treaty of 1920 displacement of any combat ship on Ladoga should not exceed 100t, therefore according to the technical design displacement of submarine could make no more than 99t. The design, as well as in a case with remaining Finnish submarines, was prepared by German engineers. For convenience of railway transportation hull of submarine was fulfilled disassembled on two parts.
Modernizations: mid-1930s: diesel was replaced by new one (200hp, 7kts), mine stowage was decreased to 6.
Naval service: According to Paris treaty in 1947 Saukko was stricken and broken up in 1952.
