Project history: Prototype was ordered 5.10.1978 and three further 13.1.1981. Class of 12 was planned but construction was halted in favour of Rauma class. Aluminium hull. Only 3 or 4 SSMs and SONAC-PTA towed sonar were usually carried.

Modernizations: late 1980s, Helsinki: + EOS-400 e/o system

early 2000s, all: - 2 x 2 - 23/87; + 2 x 6 Sako SAM (12 Mistral)

Naval service: No significant events.
