Project history: Beginning of building of much larger ships of Najaden class did not mean, that Danish Admiralty has refused further development of type of coastal torpedo boat. In 1941, after that as all six ships of Dragen and Glenten classes were transferred to German Navy, decision on building of the same number of torpedo boats for their replacement was accepted. The basic difference from a prototype consisted in transition from turbines to diesels and abandoning of both 76 and 87mm guns in favour of light AA automatic guns. In appearance the most appreciable change became one funnel instead of two.

In August, 1943, in some days prior to full occupation of country and disarmament of Danish Military Forces, three torpedo boats of Krieger class were laid. All these ships and their followers were launched after war.

In 1952 ships of class were reclassified to patrol boats.
