Naval service: Chu Yu was hard damaged 28-29.9.1937 and sunk 2.10.1937 by aircraft from Japanese carrier Kaga on Yangtze at Jiangyin. Chu Tai 1.6.1938 was damaged by Japanese aircraft at Fuzhou and ran aground; she was ultimately destroyed there by aircraft 19.4.1941. Chu Yiu 29.9.1937 was scuttled at Tsingtao. Chu Chien, Chu Kuan and Chu Tung in the autumn of 1938 were damaged on Yangtze and disarmed (on other data, Chu Chien was scuttled to fairway barrage 11.8.1937), their guns were landed; nevertheless, they were registered in fleet list till the end of war. Further fate of Chu Chien is unknown; Chu Kuan in 1949 escaped to Taiwan, she was stricken in 1960s. Chu Tung served under PRC flag till 1960s.
