Project history: Type 052C. First Chinese surface combatant with a true air-defence capability. Based on the same hull as type 052B, this class is equipped with an AEGIS-style phased-array radar capability and a VLS air-defence system along with modern anti-ship missiles. Following some sources, type 726-4 decoy launchers can be used as ASW rocket launchers.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: No significant events.
