Project history: Variant of type 037IG with stronger armament and more powerful diesels. One (Lianjiang) was built as technology demonstrator with Russian gun armament.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: Lianjiang collided twice during her service: at first time in 2001 she was nearly sunk after a collision with fast ferry on Hong Kong - Guangzhou route; at second time she sank with 13 men lost in 26.6.2006 in collision with Chinese cargo vessel, she was salvaged and recommissioned in 2008.
