Project history: Ordered in 2008, built under a joint venture between DCN, Cherbourg, and Brazilian partner Odebrecht. The four submarines are to be modified versions of the Scorpène class, being built longer and wider for Brazil without air independent propulsion capabilities. Will be fitted with the SAGEM Series 30 Search Mast System Optronics mast with an infrared imager and high-definition color camera, a SAGEM Series 20 attack periscope system, also with a high-definition camera, as well as a SAGEM Series 10 compact submarine radar navigation mast.
