Project history: One of the first ships built in Brazil, but because of experience lack her building lasted 20 years. Design was developed together with British experts. Strongly armed riverine gunship. Unlike Argentinean Rosario, Pernambuco had wide low-board hull and stronger protection. 120mm guns were placed in a turret.

Ship protection: Citadel was extremely protected by 168-102mm belt and 102mm deck. Main guns were installed in the turret with 152mm sides.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: No significant events.
