Project history: Multi-purpose ships, capable to carry minelaying or minesweeping equipment. They were projected on a basis of German minesweepers of the WWI period. During the Second World War they were converted to escorts and re-rated as corvettes.

Modernizations: 1942-1944, Carioca, Cananéia, Cabedelo, Caravelas, Camaquã: - 44 mines, minesweeping gear; + 1 x 1 - 102/45 Vickers N, 2 x 1 - 20/70 Mk 4, 2 DCT, 2 DCR

Naval service: Camaquã foundered 21.7.1944 during a storm off Pernambuco. Survived ships after war were again converted to minesweepers, except Camocim, remained a corvette.
