Project history: Former minesweepers purchased in 1996 for transfer on retirement from Royal Navy in 1998. Two, P60  and 61, were originally to be employed as navigational buoy tenders and training ships and the others two converted to serve as survey ships. Brazilian Navy sisters serve as hydrographic survey ships and as a navigational buoy tender. Have steel hulls built to commercial single-compartment damage standard. There have been upper-deck corrosion problems.  Sweep gear removed prior to transfer.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: No significant events.
