Project history: After 4.9.1939 Great Britain requisitioned 6 J class destroyers (Jurua, Javary, Jutahy, Juruena, Jaguaribe, Japarua), built under Brazilian order, the decision on building instead of their equivalent series on domestic shipyards was accepted. Six Acre class destroyers were laid down in 1940, however because of weak technical base and a lack of experience of builders, building was delayed, and ships were completed late after war.
Initial design practically repeated requisitioned ships which had in a basis British H class ships, however reorientation of Brazilian shipbuilding programme from British to American help has affected on their appearance and equipment. Finally destroyers preserved a few common features with their British prototype, and outwardly began to resemble American Craven class, in particular, instead of two funnels there was one. Armament have been unified with M class ships and included 4 single Mk12 127mm/38 guns (closed mount for No1 gun and opened for remaining), twin 40mm/56 Bofors MGs, 4 single 20mm/70 Oerlikons and 2 triple 533mm TTs, placing aside amidships. All armaments, radars and fire control systems were US-built. Acre and Ajuricaba were equipped by General Electric 34600hp turbines and made 33.5kts and had triple TT mounts. Remaining ships of class had Westinghouse 45000hp engines, made up to 36kts and had quadruple TTs. Besides, Acre did not had 40mm MGs.

Modernizations: 1954-1955, all were armed with: 3 x 1 - 127/38 (1 Mk 30, 2 Mk 21), 2 x 2 - 40/60 Mk 1, 4 x 1 - 20/70 Mk 4, 2 x 3 - 533 TT, 8 DCT, 2 DCR, SPS-4, SPS-10 radars, QCR-1 sonar
