Project history: The French submarine Curie was trapped on 20 December 1914 in the net barrage of Pola harbour during an attempt to penetrate, was forced to the surface and sunk by gunfire. Raised in February 1915, she was refitted and commissioned as U14. From February to November 1916 she was re-engined, rearmed and was given a German-style conning tower instead of her small, wet lookout platform, all of which improved her fighting potential significantly.

1918: - 2 - 450 Drzewiecki TC; + 2 - 450 TT (ext aft)
Naval service: Operating under the command of Lieutenant (sen) Georg Finer von Trapp (whose postwar career was made famous by the film 'The Sound of Music'), U14 achieved one of the highest scores of all Austrian U-boats. On 17 July 1919 she rejoined the French Navy under her old name, served until 1928 and was scrapped in 1929.
