Project history: Ordered by the Russian Army Ministry for local defence on the Black Sea coast, reflected positive experience with the Drzewiecki boats of the 1870s. Transferred to Navy control in August 1914. No.3 was captured by Austrian forces at Reni 12.3.1918. K.u.K Kriegsmarine originally intended to use her in the Gulf of Trieste, but it was later decided to leave her in the Black Sea. During the refit in the Romanian shipyard of Turnu Severin, she was found to be of very little fighting value and the Austrian crew was sent home in May 1918. No.3 remained in the shipyard until the end of war.
