Project history: Officially classified as "torpedo ship".

Modernizations: 1887, both: - 1 x 1 - 350 TT; + 4 x 1 - 47/30 SFK L/33 H, 1 x 5 - 47/22 SFK L/25 H, 2 x 1 - 350 TT

1906, both: - 1 x 1 - 350 TT

1917: both were armed with 2 x 1 - 66/42 SFK L/45, 4 x 1 - 47/40 SFK L/44 S, 2 - 350 TT (bow), 1 x 1 - 350 TT

Naval service: Zara early in the century became a torpedo training vessel and in 1906 cadet instruction vessel. Spalato served from 1910 as a gunnery TS.
