Project history: They were designed and laid down as minelayers in a 4-ship class, but during construction the design was modified towards strengthening of anti-submarine armament at the expense of abandoning from mines. Sister-ships Piedra Buena and Azopardo were completed in 1954-1957 under the changed design as anti-submarine frigates.

Modernizations: 1960s, both: - 3 x 1 - 105/45; + 3 x 1 - 105/41 Bofors M45, Decca 1226 radar, 3 x 1 - 12.7/90

Naval service: No significant events.
