Project history: Espora and Rosales were steel-hulled boats with a raised forecastle and poop and two raked masts and funnels. The 76mm Nordenfelt QF guns were mounted en échelon on the forecastle, with the 8pdr and two 3pdr guns on the poop. There was one fixed bow TT, and the others were in pairs on trainable mountings forward and aft of the second funnel. Espora was reconstructed in 1905, retaining the bow TT and the two 3in guns, but the remaining armament was replaced by 5-3pdr (5 x 1) and the trainable tubes were removed. Her loco boilers were replaced by six Yarrow watertube boilers.

Naval service: Rosales foundered during a storm in the mouth of La Plata 9.7.1892.
