Project history: Former Spanish destroyers Churucca and Alcalá Galiano, sold to Argentina 10.6.1926 under construction. As a compliment for the former mother country they received names in honour of eminent Spaniards. On 4hr trials Cervantes shown 37.64kts overage speed, and made maximally 39.76kts.
Since 1952 ships were rated as destroyer escorts.
Modernizations: late 1940s, both: - 1 x 1 - 120/45, 1 x 1 - 76/45, 4 x 1 - 7.7/87; + 3 x 2 - 40/60 Mk 1
Naval service: All ships were stricken 10.1.1956 and BU in 1959-1960. Juan de Garay was used for training in 1952-1959.
